I’m in Auckland, waiting around for a week or so until my bike shows up.
One of the main spots to go visit here is the Auckland Museum. The highlights of this place were the exhibits on Maori culture and the War Memorial.

Well, I’ve been back in Brisbane for about a week now. The first thing I needed to do when I got into town was to get my bike cleaned up. When I was at the Tamworth Motorcycle Museum, I met Mark, and he and his wife Michelle let me stay at their place for a couple days and use their garage and pressure washer.

From Straddie, I headed back south to Byron Bay. If you like dreadlocks and not showering, this is the place for you!
OK, so it’s not that bad…it’s pretty great, in fact.

After the Horizon’s Unlimited event, I didn’t have any specific plans…the only thing I had scheduled was the shipping of my bike from Brisbane to Auckland, which isn’t until the 21st. So, my friend Peter, who I met at the Horizon’s gathering offered to show me around North Stradbroke Island (or Straddie, as they call it).

From Sydney, I headed north to Beaudesert, which isn’t far from Brisbane. I had some route recommendations which turned out to be great…some nice paved roads, with a good amount of dirt added into the mix, and even a few river crossings.

I took backroads from Canberra up to Sydney, and had some wonderful riding, except for the last 30 minutes or so when a downpour hit me hard.

From Melbourne, I took a couple days to ride up to Tottenham, a small town that wouldn’t typically end up on the list of places to see in Australia.
I took the scenic route on the way up, via the Great Alpine Road

Outside of the Flinder’s Range, I made my way towards the Grampians National Park. On the way, I passed Pink Lake…pretty creative name!

I’m out of National Park territory and heading back south.
Rather than going back down the Stuart Highway (the main north/south road through the middle of Australia, and the road I took north through Coober Pedy and to Uluru) the whole way, I headed east off of it, on the Oodnadatta Track, a dirt track, which was smooth, fast, and nearly empty (there was a period of over 3 hours where I saw only 3 cars). The route it follows is the Old Ghan Railway, so you can often see the old track bed or small bridges from the road.
